Day 12 biking and kayaking Elaphite islands

Day 12 was jammed packed like every other day pretty much.  We got up somewhat early to do a quick lap around the town walls of Dubrovnik before meeting our tour to do a hiking and biking trip to the Elaphite islands.  Highlights of the day are of course kayaking and biking, walking the walls, a nice lunch in a fishing village, a relaxing ferry ride and a good pizza for dinner

We never found a market that was open the night before so breakfast was pears from the day before, granola bars and starbucks instant lattes.  At least the view from the porch was great

We ran a little late so we had all of 45 min to walk and take pictures of the 2 km of walls. We entered at the Polace gate near the harbor.  After a brief climb we had this great view

Panoramic near the closest to the hill

We made it to the highest part!

View of St. Lawrence fort from the walls

After walking all the wall in under 40 min (not recommended) we caught a bus to the ferry terminal where our tour left from

Our ferry was very crowded.  We snagged a spot near the steering area and quickly drank our 3 types of liquids

Here is a map of the tour for that day.  We started on Lopud, kayaked to Sipan island, biked around had lunch and then kayaked back to our starting point to wait for the ferry.  The tour was through outdoorcroatia

It took forever to get the kayaks ready.  They did give a full guide to using kayaks, but in the sun for an hour we were like lets get moving.  Then they made us put on the skirts which was way too warm for 90 degrees.  When we did finally get going it was great though

Us finally on the water

It took about an hour to paddle the 2.5 miles to Sipan.  We landed in this cute little fishing village and then were off to get our bikes

About 1/3 of the way there we stopped at this 14th century church to climb to the roof.  A bee got stuck in my hair and Zach tried to swat it away.  Instead he got stung right on the forehead.  Views from the church roof were nice though

Biking through olive trees and vineyards

Lunch was at restaurant in the other village.  We both had black risotto which was quite good

Final stop before getting back on the bikes was a swim in the bay.  The water was pretty warm and very salty.  I forget how much easier it is to float in salt water

Vineyard on the way back

Kayaking off the island we ran into a swimming pack of girls.  They were playing some sort of game that involved trying to stay attached to our kayaks which we tried to paddle out.  Our guide said to just wack them in the head (we didn't do that, we just paddle hard to get far enough out they stopped following us)

Back on Lopud we had about 50 min.  Enough time to get some good homemade ice cream, climb to the church and then get a good spot in line for the ferry

The town church from the ferry pier

Bridge into Dubrovnik on the ferry ride back

We decided to walk the 2.5 km back to our place.  Luckily we ran into this creepy Tommy grocery store that had everything we needed for breakfast the next day (I didn't get a good picture, but their logo is seriously creepy)

View from our deck after climbing all the way back to our apartment

Ship in the harbor and the walls on our walk to dinner

Name of the place we ate dinner.  We found some half decent Slovenian dark beer and had a good salad and ham/arugula pizza.

On the way back we made it to 100 flights for the day.  Of course we stayed up just long enough to get everything together for the next day and then we soundly sleeping

Tomorrow we see the sights of Dubrovnik before heading to Mostar
