Great Britain Day 5 Full conference day and more Tolkien

Day 5 was a full conference day for Jolene and a full day of sightseeing for Zach and Lincoln.  You can find their adventure after my little post on the conference

Today at the conference they put up the information about the art exhibit that all the women in the conference are a part of.  You can see the logo for that below.  It was installed in the big clock tower.  The first speaker's resume was very impressive.  She was the first women to do a lot of things in Nigeria.  She studies the magnetosphere, and while her topic was interesting her talk was a lot of words on slides with a few of those really annoying annimations.

This is actually where I spent a lot of my time (while underneath here).  The classroom reserved for feeding was basically below here in the music building.  Today they finally let me have a key!  But even with the key it turns out that I can't get to the room with the sink and there is no fridge so not the best setup.

There was a full day of conference activities including getting to see how British school children learn physics which was super interesting.  Perhaps the most interesting was listening to all the countries describe their poster.  In particular the lady from Yemen had a really interesting intro.

Zach and Lincoln came to campus and we snuck them into the dinner for the evening.  It was not so great, but hey at least it was free!  Then we headed back to the hotel to let Lincoln bounce and play on the bed while the sunset.  Everyone else enjoyed a lovely piano concert, but with no milk supply built up that didn't work with his feeding schedule

Zach and Lincoln's Adventures, Day 2

We started the day out close to campus, walking around the grounds of King Edward's School, where Tolkien was a student. After that, we made sure to take a picture of the great tower, possibly another Tolkien influence...

On the way to meet Jolene for Lincoln's meal, we took a break from Tolkien to make sure to capture some sights from music history...

After Lincoln's meal, we went to  Moseley Bog, an old drained mill pool that Tolkien wandered as a child.

Someone carved a dragonfly into a felled tree. A tribute, perhaps?

After the bog, we drove to get lunch. On the way, we made sure to see the house Tolkien lived in as a boy.

Then, lunch at the Hungry Hobbit.

After going back to campus again, we headed off for the terraces at the Library of Birmingham, with a little Tolkien thrown in...

The very top floor of the library is the Shakespeare collection, housed in a room preserved and reconstructed from the city's original 19th century library.

Then back to the hotel for a quick break before catching up with Jolene!
