Day 12 Zugdidi to Mestia

Yep I am super behind again, long days and bad internet make it hard to keep up.  I am going to try to fill in the missing days though starting with Day 12.  On this day we drove from Zugdidi to Mestia in the mountains.  We were still with George from Real Georgia tours.   All in all it was a day filled with amazing scenery.
The day started with breakfast in our apartment in Zugdidi.  I don't think I mentioned this before, but it was actually some sort of civic hall they converted into apartments (mostly done by the owners so not all up to code).

Lincoln was insane this morning, so it was a good thing we weren't picked up until 10:20 (it was supposed to be 10, but turns out Georgians can't be on time for anything).  Here is Lincoln trying to play with his bathtub while Zach tries to deflate it.
Our apartment

First stop was the Dadiani museum.  It took forever to find parking because basically all the Georgian ministers where there visiting that day for some reason.  Here they are walking through the grounds.

I don't have pictures from inside the palace because it wasn't allowed.  Basically it is a palace for the Dadiani family who were rulers of the region in the 1800's (and earlier I think).  The most impressive thing was 1 of 3 death masks from Napolean which they have because of some sort of family relationship to Napolean.
Next up was about 5 hours total of driving mostly through the mountains to reach Mestia.  This is a gigantic reservoir formed by one of the biggest dams in the world

We saw lots and lots of bee houses along the road with honey for sale

We stopped at a family restaurant along the way.  Lincoln was nuts from being in the car all day.  Luckily the owner had kids and brought Lincoln this blow up donkey to play with.  He loved that part!

The food was plentiful good and cheap

We ate inside because it was like 95, but here is the view from their patio

Finally we got to Svaneti.  You could tell because there was suddenly these medival stone towers call koshi everywhere.
We stayed at Nino's guest house right in Mestia.  We had about 20 min to drop of stuff and get settled

Next stop was a cable car to the top of a smaller mountain.  Kate decided not to join us, but it was amazing!

Lincoln was a little skirmy, but we managed to pin him down and eventually he loved the ride.  Everything was "bubbles!"

Dinky at the top with one of the hardest mountains to climb in the background

Family photo at the top!

There were horses at the top that Lincoln wanted to visit, but we didn't have time because the lift was closing soon.

The views on the way down were amazing!

Info about our ride

Then it was back to the guesthouse for a few hours of rest before dinner
One of the employees was going to babysit Lincoln while we went to dinner and the folk show.  They even set up the hammock which Lincoln loved.  In the end though we decided since he was really short on sleep we didn't want to leave them with a crazy kid so he came with

Police station which we latter learned are all made out of glass to promote transparency

Our Georgian feast!

Then the traditional music started.  There was singing and different musical instruments and dancing

Lincoln absolutely loved it.  He was either watching intently or dancing his heart out!

Cheesecake desert to finish it off!

Beautiful walk back to our place!

The next day we get to spend all in the mountains!
