Day 1-2 Traveling to ljubljana

Our vacation has finally arrived!

The last few days before leaving have been very busy.  On Sat we picked up my sister from the airport who returned from Moldova for the first time since last summer.  Sunday we went to the Stone Arch art festival, said goodbye to Belle, and did lots of gardening and packing.

Goodbye house and garden!
Monday was the last day of work for both of us, then we saw the Twins crush the White Soxs and then were up way to late.

This morning (or I guess yesterday at this point).  We got up, went for a short run, gathered our stuff and were off to the airport.  We took the bus and train from our house, and despite having really bad luck just missing both the bus and train we made it to the airport in under an hour.  On the bus we met this really nice guy who told us we were very lucky that we were going to see gorillas in their native habitat.  I had told him we were going to the Balkans which was near Italy and Greece so he just seemed really confused.  At the airport check in was very smooth with no line for security at all.  We had a nice lunch a French Meadow, grabbed some coffee and were off to DC.

Train from downtown to the airport

French Meadow = great airport food.  I had grilled tuna and Zach had a chicken sandwich

In DC we had exactly enough time to grab more coffee and board the plane.

The flight was not very eventful.  We somehow got great seats.  Aisle and window in economy plus section, although Zach has a possessed screen that wouldn't stay doing one thing. Veggie dinner was some not so great spinach (or was that grape leaves?) lasagna.  They managed to wake both of us up to make sure we had our mango sorbet that I can't even eat.  Zach of course didn't sleep much, but I slept a little.

We were woken up just as we got over Great Britain.  On the way in we had a nice few of Paris.
Pasteurized cheese food?  At least it was from Wisconsin

A little hard to see, but this is the Eiffel tower at sunrise viewed from our plane

The Paris airport once again confused us, but this time we eventually managed to find the poorly marked shuttle to the middle of nowhere terminal 2G.  Multiple trains and busses later we are sitting near the gate, enjoying our small breakfast and waiting to catch the plane to Paris.  Next stop the Balkans!
