Well once again I am going to try to keep up with a blog of our trip. Here is just a quick overview of where we are this year
We are visiting the 3 countries in the Caucasus (Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia). We decided on this area because we are starting by visiting my sister Kate who teaches at a school in Baku. Kate is joining us for the Azerbaijan and Georgia part. She can't come to Armenia with us because Armenia and Azerbaijan are still fighting over disputed territory and it would be difficult to get back in the country with an Armenian passport.
First just a map to give you an idea of where the Caucasus are because when I say where we are going the most asked question is where is that?
So the Caucasus states were formally part of the USSR. They are in a somewhat volatile part of the world between Russia and Iran. While there are still some conflicts in the area it is generally safe and we are avoiding the few dangerous areas.
Ushguli, Svaneti Georgia
Yerevan Armenia
Tatev Monestary, Armenia
I am going to try to keep the blog updated every few days. If I can manage that depends on how good our internet is and how well Lincoln is doing at sleeping.
