Day 11 we explored Gotland and Faro islands by car. Then we did a somewhat short bike ride from Visby to explore the coast
First thing in the morning I ran out to the grocery store to find some breakfast
Lincoln very much approved of the fruit and yogurt I found
Then we were off to drive through northern Gotland and then on to Farro Island. We saw lots of historical churches along the way
Then we got the the free car ferry to Faro Island. It took all of 10 minutes
Faro is known for the windmills and for Ingrid Bergman
We stopped at this cute fishing village for a bathroom break and to let Lincoln throw rocks
The local birds
Lincoln loved throwing rocks. He also collected 1 rock per beach we stopped at
Then we stopped at a few beaches with sea stacks. These are limestone pillars on the edge of the beach
Dinky thought they were pretty cool
Next stop was the Faro lighthouse
Lovely view of the Baltic sea
Family photo with the lighthouse
For lunch we stopped at Creperie Tati in the middle of nowhere. The place was very eclectic and one decoration was this Bob Dylan sign
The food was great and not super expensive!
A typical house on Farro
More churches on the way back to Visby
After a quick stop at our apartment we walked to Gotlands Cycling to get bikes. The plan was to go north and south for a total of about 20 km
We also stopped in town to see some churches and church ruins. This is St. Karin
And here is the Visby cathedral
It is beautiful on the inside as well
Next we were off biking south to see the cliffs
But we had just made it up the big hill out of town and then the kid carrier got a flat so we had to bike back. We got there right before they closed so they just gave us a new one
Visby harbor on the way north
Some of the great views on our 10 mile bike ride
About 5 miles out of town we stopped to have our picnic dinner. Lincoln loved the cheese meat and bread idea
Some local birds observed us from afar
Then we biked back into Visby, returned our bikes and called it a night
The next day we are headed off Gotland and on to mainland Sweden in search of my Swedish ancestors!
