Day 5 of our trip was all about Arctic Circle activities. We went and saw the Holiday village including visiting santa and his reindeer. We then went for a hike in Pyha Luosto national park. Another great day!
We started off the day by nearly missing breakfast. We didn't set an alarm because we figured no way would Lincoln sleep to late. Nobody woke up until 9:40. We quickly got dressed and barely made it to breakfast
First stop after breakfast was to visit Santa. It is "free" but you can't take your own picture and it cost 35 euros to get a copy. So we have few paper copies and no digital copies of our visit. Santa did know a lot of languages and he knew about Duluth.
Then we crossed the arctic circle on the way to visit the Holiday Park
Not entirely sure what this exhibit was, but it seemed to be a bunch of different Lappish homes. Lincoln liked climbing on it
Next was a highlight for Lincoln. We paid 5 euro each to get in to pet and feed the reindeer. Lincoln loved chasing them around trying to feed them one leaf at a time. There was 5 reindeer including a baby

After that we stopped at Santa's postoffice. Lincoln will get a letter from Santa in Dec!
Finally it was lunch time. We ate in this tiny cute restaurant where the meat was cooked over the fire in the center of the room
After a filling lunch we went back to our room and got ready for a hike. It was about 1:20 drive further north and a east to Luontokeskus visitor center. There we replaced Lincoln's water bottle and picked up a map for our hike
We don't have as many pictures of the beautiful hike as I wanted because I dropped the camera in the parking lot. It eventually worked but not on our hike. The hike was 9 km and included big up and downs. Lincoln enjoyed the backpack the entire time
4 km in we switched who was carrying him. Also it was about this time it started lightly raining and there was a lot of steps
This is the deepest gorge in Finland and it was so beautiful even in the rain. They had built a boardwalk all the way through it
Finally at the end of the hike the sun came back out
We drove back into Rovaniemi and had some burgers at this cute little hippy restaurant. The guy at the counter knew the Wild played in Minnesota so that was cool.
After that it was off to bed. We managed to get Lincoln a little closer to his schedule which is good because we can't sleep all morning. Tomorrow is a mostly travel day with a flight to Helsinki and then picking up a car to drive to the Lakes area of Finland.
